Television Business School

The TVBS is an intensive project-based course organised by the Media Business School with the support of the Media Plus Programme of the European Union and other partners. It provides consultation and training in the fields of finance, development, sales, legal structures and television genres, imparted by a group of influential TV professionals who are wholly committed to helping participants assess the market value of their project and accelerate its progress.

The TVBS brings together some of Europe’s most promising TV professionals from the field of television production with a team of senior executives and producers who act as tutors and consultants on the course. The MBS provides a unique environment where influential TV professionals advise, tutor and share their knowledge with other professionals.

Genre-specific training

Today’s global television market is in a constant state of flux, and European professionals are more and more challenged to design and deliver programmes that meet broadcasters’ demands. In a continuous effort to adapt to the ever-changing needs of the television industry, the Television Business School focuses on genre-specific production, tailoring its profile to reflect the uniqueness and diversity of audience tastes.

By refining the approach, we have sharpened the definition of the course, so that we can offer you, the producer, the opportunity to benefit from a course that caters exclusively to your needs, by bringing together a group of professionals with the same needs and interests. TVBS 2006 sessions will focus on three specific genres: fiction, documentaries and animation. Genre-specific tutors will provide the necessary support in each field, offering TVBS participants specific advice tailored to each of their projects.

A founding genre, the documentary plays a crucial role in all sectors of the audiovisual industry. Essential to any broadcaster´s programming, it is a genre in particular need of support and continued investment. The fourteenth edition of the TVBS will bring together an international network of independent producers working in the field of documentary production, and assist them in acquiring the financing necessary to realise their projects.

The past few years have witnessed outstanding growth in European animation. This is partly due to the creation and launch of products more catered to audience tastes that have found their way into the marketplace despite an all-powerful American industry. One of the key aspects of animation production is the co-production system. Being a genre that travels easily, budgets are high and therefore complex financing schemes are often involved, including subsidies, pre-sales and even backing by other media businesses (publishing companies, computer games developers, etc.) through licensing and merchandising agreements. The Television Business School aims to support European independent producers working in the field of animation production, and assist them in securing the funding needed to realise their projects. Without question, the creativity and professionalism in European animation productions competes with American standards.

AIM

To provide television professionals with a user-friendly platform for getting consultation for their projects and acquiring the know-how and information needed to develop their programmes more effectively, as well as establish an international network of professional contacts.
